Discover more, write less.
Welcome to the project website of AI Paper Maker. AI Paper Maker is a collaborative ESF Plus-funded research project between TU Dresden and the Dresden-based startup ByteBuzzer GmbH. Our mission is to change the way researchers and scientists approach paper writing and publishing.

Currently, conducting research and writing papers are very time intensive activities. Increasing competition for funding and pressure to publish high quality papers add to the stressors of researchers.

With AI Paper Maker, we want to shape the future of research and scientific communication. At the heart of the project lies researching an innovative XAI architecture for a scientific writing aid. This XAI architecture will be designed to process data with a high degree of transparency, focusing on the authenticity and accuracy of the content as well as data security. Our goal is to lay a solid foundation through this project, enabling us to create a prototype application that transforms the landscape of academic writing.

Research Goals
AI Paper Maker can be assigned to the emerging field of XAI: explainable artifical intelligence. XAI are methods and techniques that aim to make decisions and algorithms of AI systems more comprehensible and transparent to the user. The project started in August 2023 and will run for 36 months. It is co-financed by the European Union and classified as basic research (Technology Readiness Level 1-3). Within the scope of the 3 years, we aim to answer the following research questions:

RQ1: How can AI-applications connect and aggregate information in a truthful way?

RQ2: How can we develop a self-learning AI application for establishing scientific truth that is impartial, avoids clichés, and is accessible?

RQ3: How can functions and decisions of AI-applications be made transparent to enhance trust?

RQ4: In which way are AI-generated publications perceived compared to manual publications?

Funding

The AI Paper Maker initiative represents a collaborative effort involving TU Dresden's Department of Speculative Transformation and ByteBuzzer GmbH, with financial support from Sächsische Aufbaubank. Spanning 36 months, this project receives co-funding from the European Union and is categorized as basic research, falling within the Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) of 1 to 3.
